Reducing Glass Corrosion During Bottlewashing

Abstract
Scuffing of refillable glass bottles reduces packaging appeal and increases packaging replacement costs. This paper discusses a method of reducing scuffing by 50% on refillable glass bottles, that is achieved by reducing chemical etching in the bottlewasher. In addi- tion, this method is also effective in protecting the color and gloss of applied ceramic labeling. This discovery makes it possible to double the number of trips before unacceptable scuffing and loss of label gloss occurs, thus maintaining brand image and package appearance longer. It also functions as a complete bottlewashing detergent to pro- vide effective detergency and to control foam and scale in the bottle- washer. This technology is especially suited to the brewing industry where package appearance, brand image and costs are considerations. Because this new technology is a bottlewash detergent, it is easy to implement and requires no additional equipment or capital investment.

Sintesis
El desgaste de botellas de vidrio rellenables reduce el atractivo del empacado y aumenta el Costa de reproduction del empacadu. Este documento discute un metodo mediante el cual se reduce el desgaste de botellas de vidrio rellenables en un 50%, que se logra mediante la reduccion del grabado qufmico en la lavadora de butellas. Ademais, este metodo es efectivo tambien en la protection del color y brillo de las marcas de ceramica aplicadas. Este descubrimiento hate posible el aumentar al doble el numero de viajes antes de que ocurra un des- gaste y perdida de brillo de la marca inaceptables, manteniendose asi la imagen de la marca y la apariencia del empacado por mas tiempo. Tambibn funciuna como un detergente complete para el lavado de botellas que proporeiona limpieza efectiva y un control de espuma e incrustaciunes en la lavadora de botellas. Esta tecnulogia es especial para la industria cervecera dunde la apariencia del empacado, la ima- gen de la marca y el custu se tuman en cunsideracion. Debidu a que esta nueva tecnulogia es un detergente para el lavado de botellas, es facil de implementar y no requiere de equipo adiciunal o inversion de capital.
