Abstract
This paper in the reprint series "Brewing! Have things changed so much?" was first published in 1959 and deals with the control of pest infestation (insects, rats and mice) in breweries. The emphasis is on frequent inspection to detect pests while their numbers are still low and on preventive precautions to keep them out of the premises as far as possible. Safety precautions required when using toxic pesticides are also described. Thorough and frequent cleaning and disinfection of brewery buildings is likewise essential, and the correct management of cleaning activities is therefore discussed.
