The removal of oxygen from liquid CO2.

Selz, P.

Oxygen is easily removed from liquid carbon dioxide by means of a distillation column. The amount of oxygen which can be absorbed in liquid carbon dioxide is limited by temperature and pressure. Most commercial carbon dioxide suppliers use distillation columns capable of removing oxygen and other substances with sufficient efficiency to meet brewers' standards of purity (often greater than 99.99% by volume). The two main types of column, the "packed" and "trayed", are described and their respective advantages and disadvantages compared. Criteria for the design and construction of carbon dioxide purification plants are discussed together with the different possible system layouts.
