Production of nitrogen from natural gas and its uses in the brewery.

Twomey, D.A. and O'Leary, J.J.

Abstract
In 1982 Beamish and Crawford, Ireland, installed a gas generator to burn natural gas (> 99% methane) with air to produce a mixture of nitrogen and carbon dioxide (delivery 4100 cu ft/h, burning 480 cu ft/h fuel gas). Key elements of the plant, fuel gas booster, cooler, sulphur removal tower, gas proportioning valve, combustion chamber, platinum catalyst chamber, gas cooler and separator, dessicant driers and storage tanks are discussed. Return on investment has been one year. Applications of nitrogen gas in brewing are listed.
