A picture of the Mexican brewing industry

A. Escobar Y. Cordova

At present, Mexico has nineteen breweries scattered through eleven Federal States. In 1966, more than one-thousand million liters of beer were consumed. Nevertheless, per capita consumption was not very high. The development of the Mexican brewing industry has contributed significantly to the progress and economic strength of that nation. The brewing industry has distinguished itself for the punctual payment of its excise taxes. In addition, the industry pays for the expenses of administration and maintenance of the volumeters of beer, which is one of the controls used to determine the excise tax to be paid, as well as inspectors assigned to each brewery.
